Coping Skills for Sight Loss

Need help dealing with sight loss such as that caused by macular degeneration? Crowell Public Library is partnering with the Braille Institute in presenting four seminars that will address all your questions related to managing daily life with low sight. October 8: Understanding visual loss for families; presentations on macular degeneration and low vision. October 15: The business of life: presentation from California Telephone Access Program and Sound Solutions; organizing and identifying money; marking and labeling household items. October 22: Staying connected: rediscover the joy of reading; corresponding: sprucing up your signature, reading, writing and communication. October 29:Getting around town: orientation and mobility; information on Braille Institute Classes and low vision rehabilitation consultant appointments. UCLA's Osher Lifelong Learn Institute

starting September 2010: Over 50 and seeking intellectual, cultural or social experiences? Eager to stay informed or master new skills? Have a desire to meet others with similar interests? If you live in the San Marino area, you’re in luck: UCLA extension is coming to the Crowell Public Library. Starting in September, three of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute classes will be held in the Barth Community Room of the library: Architecture and America’s Social History, Aging as Exemplified in Drama, and Guided Autobiography. Osher classes do not require tests or grades. They follow a short format that facilitates learning, encourages discussion and provides opportunities to socialize. Explore a world of new ideas, culture and fun! The Osher Lifelong Learning is a membership program for adults 50 and above, offering a wide selection of courses each quarter. The Secrets of Color & Style

Creating a Powerful Presence through Positive Self-Discovery with Diana Olson: MONDAY September 27TH - 7:00 P.M. Certified Image Professional DIANA OLSON will provide tips on personal color and individualization of style, as well as practical ideas to increase one’s self-knowledge, self-esteem, and personal magnetism. Ms. Olson’s program will cover: Recognizing the relationship between self-identification and a powerful presence; Creating a more positive visual impact with wardrobe and makeup;Learning the importance of individualization with styles and colors that make one feel younger and look slimmer;Developing a system of investment dressing that will save money. Diana Olson has over 20 years of experience as an image, etiquette and civility specialist and is a weekly columnist for the La Canada Valley Sun.
