The Doctor Is In: Dementia - Beyond Alzheimer's

Monday, September 26, 2011, 6 p.m. DR. OSCAR CHIEN, a specialist in Geriatrics and Internal Medicine, will talk about therapies and treatment options for seniors experiencing mental health issues. Dr. Chien is affiliated with the San Gabriel Valley Medical Center. There will be an opportunity to ask the doctor questions at the end of the talk. The program is FREE, but space is limited. Quality of Life: Life Review

Thursdays starting, October 13th 10:30-11:30 a.m. – Are you an older adult who believes lifelong learning keeps you young and relevant? There’s a new class for you at Crowell Public Library. JOANNA M. SAPORITO, L.C.S.W., presents Quality of Life - Life Review, an interactive class focusing on improving the quality of life, increasing social outlets, and clarifying life issues. There will be discussion topics related to older adulthood, such as: • Having a positive attitude and outlook • Social connections • Personal independence and appropriate interdependence • Being realistic and resilient This free discussion group will meet Thursdays in the Barth Community Room at Crowell Public Library, October 13, 17, November 3, 10 and December 1, 8, and 22. Jump on a bandwagon that is active, interested and living longer with a positive attitude. Grab a cup of coffee and the hour will zip by! An expert in the field for almost twenty years, Joanna M. Saporito, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who recently obtained a Certificate in Aging from Boston University. She’s had extensive training in issues related to work, domestic abuse, loss and grief. She has a private practice in Glendale and has been teaching at Glendale College for 13 years. She also teaches in the Life Long Learning program for older adults. If truth be known, her favorite students are those in Life Long Learning!
