Navigating the Maze of Medicare: Part E Supplemental Plans

Wednesday, October 4 – 7:00 p.m.

Health Insurance Specialist John Dickey returns to the Barth Community Room on Wednesday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. to discuss Part E of Medicare, which includes the Supplemental Plans that function like PPOs.  These plans are also referred to as MediGap policies.  John will go through a carrier's 2017 Supplemental Plan Enrollment Guide Book, step by step.  There will be a question and answer period to address any other Medicare issues patrons might have.  An excellent, generic 2017-2018 guidebook on all aspects of Medicare will also be given to every attendee to take home.

John’s guidance and advocacy on behalf of seniors is always totally independent of any insurance company/carrier, and is governed by CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services).  He will serve as a free resource and advocate, now and at any time in the future, to help people find the Medicare information needed.  His consultations and advocacy work are always free.  John has given numerous presentations throughout San Gabriel Valley on Medicare, including Arcadia, Altadena and Monrovia.  He frequently attends insurance training seminars and classes to stay current on all government regulations and available plan options.  He is a fully licensed certified Health Insurance Planner, has an MBA, and has lived in San Gabriel Valley for 20 years.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn the details of Medicare Part E and to get all other Medicare questions answered.

Digital Photography - Indoor Photos

Saturday, September 23th 2-4:00 p.m.

Lose your fear of creating your own light, in this demonstration of how to use a flash to make better images indoors.   George Simian, a leading East-Coast commercial photographer (now based in LA) and educator (UCLA Extension, Samy’s Camera, American Photographic Artists) will show you how to master basic lighting concepts and skills, managing both the quality (hard vs. soft) and the direction (frontal vs. indirect) of light.  This workshop will begin at 2:00 p.m. and last until 4:00 p.m. in the Library’s Barth Community Room on Saturday, September 23.

George Simian started out as a photography teacher in 1973 at Cornell University, excited to "expose" newcomers to the wonders of the latent silver image, and its magical manifestation in the darkroom. When his career moved on to commercial photography, he became a mentor to his assistants, as well as presenting one-day seminars for photographers' organizations, and for various manufacturers.  Relocating to Los Angeles, George re-engaged with teaching as an avocation, and practiced it in various classrooms, location workshops, and one-on-one.  He continues to offer individual coaching, meeting with various emerging photographers with very different interests, and at different experience levels.  He finds it amazing how much one can accomplish when working side-by-side, focused exclusively on the issue at hand.

George is a longtime member of the APA - American Photographic Artists.  Don’t miss this free Speedlight demo from an expert.
