Kids, Social Networking & Safety
MONDAY September 20TH - 7:00 P.M.
Facebook, instant messaging, texting: kids love it, but parents have legitimate concerns about their children’s incessant chatting with friends and strangers. Are there really predators lurking around every post?
Join IRENE McDERMOTT for a back-to-school presentation about how best to manage a family’s involvement in the overwhelming new world of online social networking. She will discuss many aspects of the phenomena including: pornography, predators, paying to play games, commercialism, bullying, privacy, revealing too much information and generally, what is dangerous on the internet for children.
Irene McDermott is a reference librarian and systems manager at the Crowell Public Library in the city of San Marino. Her next book, The Internet Book of Life, will be published in spring 2011. Her column, "Internet Express," appears monthly in Searcher magazine.
This program is free and will take place in the Barth Community Room at Crowell.
